Improvisation / Short story

Two Things

“My son, there are two things I know you will need. Appreciation of your own life, and the urge to become better. As for which one is allowed to interfere with the other, that depends on what you are.

A doctor must sacrifice the former for the latter for he holds the lives of hundreds in his hands. The patient must sacrifice the latter for the former when necessary.”

“…Is that why I only have one leg?”

“Yes.”

Incidentally, this is my shortest short story yet!
